In 2016, he left his nine-to-five laboratory job and signed a publishing deal with BMG Nashville, where his almost alchemical songwriting ability quickly made an impression. This led to his songs being recorded by artists such as Caitlyn Smith, Old Dominion, Tim McGraw, Sixpence None the Richer, and Leigh Nash.
In 2023, Wilson Jr. had his big breakthrough. He signed with Big Loud Records and released his double debut album søn of dad—a triumphant, genre-crossing collection of 22 songs dedicated to his late father, released on the fifth anniversary of his death. The album was named the best album of 2023 by Holler, which called it “an album for the ages,” and it also appeared on year-end best-album lists from Whiskey Riff, Wide Open Country, and Rolling Stone.
In 2024, he made his American network television debut on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, followed by performances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in the #LateShowMeMusic series and on Later… with Jools Holland. Ahead of the one-year anniversary of søn of dad, Wilson Jr. was also featured in an extensive profile on CBS Saturday Morning.
In 2025, Wilson Jr. released a deluxe edition of his debut album featuring a moving rendition of “Stand By Me,” a recording that has been streamed tens of millions of times. He also completed a completely sold-out U.S. leg of the søn of dad tour and supported HARDY on select dates of the Jim Bob World Tour from May through September, including the closing show at Madison Square Garden. In the summer of 2025, he also made his debut at the Newport Folk Festival and performed at festivals such as Glastonbury Music Festival, Cavendish Beach Music Festival, Boots and Hearts, and Whiskey Moon.
On November 4, 2026, we look forward to welcoming Stephen Wilson Jr. to Sweden when he brings his Gary The Torch Tour to Stockholm for a show at Fållan. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 20 at 10:00
