Everyone who has been worried about the future of Australian guitar indie can stop now. The sun-kissed duo Royel Otis have proven they are more than ready to carry the torch forward. With a little help from two exceptionally well-executed covers — a wildly viral version of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s disco-pop classic “Murder on the Dancefloor” and a stripped-down take on The Cranberries' ballad “Linger” — Royel Madden and Otis Pavlovic introduced themselves to the wider public. A position they have not only cemented but significantly strengthened.

With an infectious ease, the two friends from Sydney blend jangly guitars, a love for bands like MGMT and Phoenix, and an undeniable knack for melodic immediacy.

After the success of those covers and the irresistible single “Oysters in My Pocket”, 2024 finally saw the release of Royel Otis’s debut album, “PRATTS & PAIN.” A summery, radiant record in which the duo manages to be both nostalgic and unmistakably contemporary all at once.

In 2025, they’ve also released the singles “moody” and “Oily Heart.”
On November 7, Royel Otis will bring their Australian sunshine to Fållan in Stockholm.
