With “Ma Meilleure Ennemie,” recorded with Stromae for the soundtrack to Arcane Season 2, Pomme reached an even wider audience. But the French singer-songwriter has long inhabited a musical landscape of her own, where intimacy and stripped-back arrangements sit alongside the grand and dreamlike.

On her fifth album, La Forteresse, Pomme takes an even firmer grip on her creative vision. The album unfolds as a story in four chapters: childhood; love and trauma; breaking through a wall; and finally stepping out on the other side.

At its core is a fictional figure — a half-human, half-bat-like creature who has been kept imprisoned inside a fortress until she decides to break through its walls.

Musically, Pomme moves between pure folk, piano and vocals, lush orchestral arrangements, and more electronic soundscapes. There is a clear sense of drama in the music, but also a directness that ensures the grand ideas always remain human and intimate.
