The concert moves between the notes, between different times and expressions. Here, playful displacements meet classical elegance. Entr’acte, between the acts, creates a sense of anticipation in which fragments of recognition are broken apart, reflected, and reassembled in new ways. In the variations on a Rococo theme, Tchaikovsky explores what can be placed between the notes of the original melody so that the music develops without losing its grounding in the basic theme. Finally, Bartók investigates how the notes relate to one another in order to create entertainment in the best possible way—divertimento. An expectation of sonorities and melodies that simultaneously surprises.
This is a concert that rests in the in-between – where space, resonance, and presence are as important as the notes themselves.
