Fat Freddy’s Drop Announce 2026 Anniversary Tour

Out of pure love for music, the legendary band Fat Freddy’s Drop will return to the stage in 2026 to perform their groundbreaking debut album Based On A True Story in its entirety.

The 51 concerts in Australia, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Europe, and the United Kingdom will be the band’s first since the sudden passing of founding member Chris “MU” Faiumu. The band stands united in their decision to go ahead with the long-planned tour.
Singer Dallas Tamaira says:

“It’s important for us to honor the intentions we shared with MU, and playing this album live is part of that.”

Based On A True Story was independently released in 2005 – an album of ten fresh future-funk tracks, full of surprises, false trails, and unexpected turns. The album made history as Aotearoa’s longest-charting album, spending 111 weeks in the Top 40, winning eight New Zealand Music Awards, and receiving Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Music Award in the UK.

Saxophonist Scott Towers explains:

“This was the band’s first full-length studio album, and its success became the springboard for an incredible journey together. We want to celebrate the music, MU, and the band he created – and of course, perform for our fans around the world who have supported us through everything.”
