Twenty years after 16 Horsepower was put on ice, David Eugene Edwards returns with the band. During the little more than ten years the group was active, they produced four highly accomplished albums that rank among the very best in gothic country. Now the band — which in its current lineup consists of Edwards, original members Jean-Yves Tola and Pascal Humbert, and Wovenhand guitarist Chuck French — is reopening 16 Horsepower to write a new chapter. For Sweden, there will be two concerts: May 20 at Fållan in Stockholm and May 23 at Garage Bar in Höganäs. Tickets go on sale Friday, December 12 at 10:00.

David Eugene Edwards’ almost maniacal folk songs tend to become powerful masses of sin, salvation, evil, betrayal, hope, despair, and God’s will and wrath — delivered with frightening intensity and conviction, like those of a possessed revival preacher. It is a strange hybrid of apocalyptic folk hymns and haunting gothic rock, performed with a dark, solemn voice shaped by his upbringing in the southern Midwest with his grandparents — somewhere between Nick Cave and Johnny Cash. The sulfurous lyrics and the hypnotic music are whispered, hissed, spat, and snarled by one of the most charismatic front men you can experience. Don’t miss the chance to see this on stage for the first time in over 20 years.

The concert is organized by Luger.
